Poll: Only 28 Percent of the Public Has "High Confidence" in Higher Education

From the upstream article that the author cites:

> How does confidence in higher education compare to confidence in other institutions? According to Gallup, Americans report similar levels of confidence in the U.S. Supreme Court (27%) and banks (26%). In the extremes, though, Americans are far more confident in small businesses (65%) and the military (60%) than they are in colleges and universities. They are far less confident in Congress (8%), television news (14%), and the criminal justice system (17%).

A personal anecdote, on a Higher Education "image" issue which the article doesn't mention:

I know a rather aggressive and successful "Investment Advisor", in a quite well-to-do area. He'd graduated from the University of Michigan (on paper, a public institution) back about 2004. Last year, Mr. Success visited the U of M campus for the first time since graduating...and was absolutely flabbergasted by the spare-no-expense opulence of the place. Even his perfectly fine, rock solid old freshman dorm had been completely redone. With nine-figure budget for the redo.

That's also roughly the percentage of Americans that have at least completed "some college."
