The idea that something can be seen from space, using modern satellite imaging, isn’t very impressive.

I can see my single car, sitting in my driveway, “from space” via Google Maps. Does this mean I have too many cars?

I think the focus here is "volume of unsold inventory".

Comparing with your car in your driveway is completely irrelevant to the article and strawmanning.

I understand that. I was a commenting on the sensationalism of the headline. Being "[seen] from space" is not the big statement it once was. That used to mean it could be seen with the naked eye from the space station, while the author is using satellite imaging, which makes nearly everything visible from space.

Yeah, they're literally using that term to describe "cars parked in a parking lot." And those parking aren't unusually large: one is literally an old mall parking lot.

I am seeing too many Tesla ads on the Web lately.

And yet TSLA is up ~10% right now, obviously some of that is probably due to the Feds announcement today but that is a pretty strong movement despite this glut of additional inventory.

inventory is measured by days of supply (Market Day Supply). I can't easily find the number today, June 2024, but in Feb 2024 we hit a new ATH of 80 days, with EV subset at 103 days. Looks like May 2024 was lower at 76 days. Tesla isn't covered in industry reports because they sell direct.

if i do my math on the article, tesla sold 4300 vehicles per day in Q1. If there are 47,000 on the lot, that's just 11 days supply, well UNDER today industry averages.
