iOS 18 introduces satellite capabilities to its iMessage app

Based on the iOS 18 announcement page, it seems like this will be unidirectional (iPhone to non-iPhone) for SMS, but bidirectional for iPhones.

I'm very curious about the price point and how they'll handle incoming new messages, i.e. whether that will require an intentional "point and poll" operation or if it'll work in-pocket via a stronger paging signal, which is how some other satellite phone networks signal new incoming calls without having to point the antenna.
