We've done point-of-care blood testing for a long time. The i-STAT from Abbott has been one of the gold standards for emergent testing requirements in emergency rooms and beyond.

(Can I mention it is an utter pain to link the ancient i-STATs to literally anything?)
Its not, it uses a well specified and widely used protocol.
Of course that sucks for some use cases, but as far as medical devices go, its not bad.
