Google can keep your phone if you send it in for repair with non-OEM parts

Aren't there any legal protections against this? That the company can keep your property by inserting a single line in the terms and conditions?

By extension, if one opens a car oil-change shop and puts in a line on page 7 of the terms and conditions stating that you they own your car now, there have to be some legal protections around it right?

> Update, June 4, 2024 (03:50 PM ET): Google has responded to Android Authority regarding the controversial clause in its service and repair terms and conditions that allows the company to keep a device sent in for repair if that device has non-OEM parts. Google has assured us that it will not keep phones sent in for repair and that it is changing the wording of its ToS agreement to reflect this better.

Yet another in a long list of reasons why I won't do business with Google.

That Apple and Samsung do the same thing is another in my list of reasons why I won't be replacing my smartphone when it dies.

It's truly shocking how hostile these companies have become toward their customers.
