Hybrid vehicles aren't just bridge to EVs, Ford chief says

Why? It’s inherently a transitional technology. It is a technology that will necessarily destroy itself. Especially in a market with a growing share of BEVs as well.
Once EVs + plug-in hybrids got to over 50% of market share in Norway, sale of gasoline started to drop by 30% every year.
Think about that for a bit.. this can’t be sustained for long without gas station shutting down or pivoting to EV chargers. I don’t think it’ll take much for people to notice and push people even more towards EVs. Once you have even a little bit of that effect going, it’ll be an accelerating positive feedback loop.
Sure, you’ll be able to find gasoline somewhere for decades to come. But will it be convenient? Will you need to make a big detour to fill up? What happens when people start to think about that?
So, a plugin hybrid as a second step since the current mild-hybrid has worked well for us and it’s only left the city 3 times in 12 years.
I would be okay with the 300 mile epa range, 80% charge as recommended (240miles), then 70% of that because EPA range is uselessly done inside a lab environment on a dynamometer (168 miles), then if we go further to 80% of that for guaranteed max possible battery degradation after 8 years of use we end up with 134.4 miles of range for a full EV grocery getter. 120 miles is about 3 hours of highway/town driving and $15 to charge up at home which is fine. A forced $10k-$20k to replace the battery not so much.
