Saw it mentioned in some recent HN thread. Looks interesting. Alpha.

It's not exactly alpha, it's quite stable, but it still misses some things that are planned to get implemented at a future time.

Actually, now I remember, I said "alpha" because I saw that mentioned in the Nelua FAQ.

But based on how I've seen the word used earlier, and on a quick google for the meaning, it seems like alpha may not have been the most suitable word to use; "incomplete" might have been a better one, or, a description like the one you gave, might have been better.
