Chickens in Trees

Another unexpected animal behavior: I know of a local facility that has a fenced campus with a fair amount of green space where the squirrels all bounce around. They hop (fairly high, actually) from place to place rather than run on the ground. I think it's because there is a large population of feral cats and the grass isn't mowed all that often, so cats can hide and non-bouncy squirrels get eaten.

Nonetheless, it's absolutely charming to watch.

There was a flock of feral chickens that lived in trees in the Bay Area — specifically in Redwood Shores. I saw them back in the 1990s. Here's their story:

I sing this periodically and would be remiss not to take the opportunity to post this link: https://youtube.com/watch?v=aCsY3REaADo

I am glad to know that there really are chickens in trees, even if I'm in my mid-40s when I learned the song from my childhood was true.
