«We are urgently calling for a mass demonstration outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday 20th of May as the monumental decision is handed down. A decision is expected on the day and should extradition be allowed moves to initiate his transfer the US could be taken immediately.»

In 80 years our grandchildren will look at Assange and Snowden like today we look at Sophia Scholl. Great heroes that remained a beacon of sanity while the world was going crazy around them.

Some may. Some won't. Most will have no idea who they were.

He didn't have to sacrifice nearly as much as Assange, Snowden, or Scholl, and his renown is proportionally smaller, but "beacon of sanity while the world was going crazy around them" is also how I see Pat Buchanan's relationship to US conservative politics (https://www.theamericanconservative.com/against-buchananism/).

These people were not particularly eloquent, or intelligent, or talented, or insightful; but they were there, they were sane, and they spoke out. Though their battles ended mostly in defeat, they helped clear the path for future victories.

6 days ago here in Australia a local army lawyer (David McBride) was given a 5 year 8 month stint for leaking classified documents. The documentation was around Australian SAS soldiers committing war crimes in Afghanistan. Given they're all still free and the conventional wisdom here is that McBride was made an example of to ensure the US didn't think Australia was soft on leakers; I don't think Assange's chances of freedom are good.
