Biden set to levy 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs this week

This just feels so money-lobbied to me by the US auto industry. Objectively, here we have a nation that is pushing for green energy by having their government subsidize it, something that every nation on Earth should be doing in order to collectively meet climate goals. This is a net positive for the whole world. We should be moving more toward green energy than not, and if this accelerates it, then all the better?

I understand if people are concerned whether the cars are up to standard, built well, have good reparability and convenient repair garages. But this doesn't seem to factor in here, just that profits are hurt for US car companies because they have been outcompeted.

Maybe instead of tariffs, we should subsidize our EV industries as much as China does. Instead of trying to take away EV credits like we've been doing.

America was only pro-Free Market when they controlled the global economy. Now that there are other competing markets, we will see so many more tariffs and trade wars. Free Market economics only work in your favor when you are the sole superpower.

It's so difficult to create a free, and fair market spanning multiple governability zones. While this tariff may be the correct move at this point in time, it's also all too easy to put the thumb on the scale to help your own domestic market. Even so, this appears to be even keel stewardship.
