I really appreciate that they let you set the battery's max charge. I keep mine at 85% most of the time, but will bump it up to 100% if I know I'm going on a trip or whatever.

Right now I have to reboot and go into the BIOS to do that, being able to set it without rebooting will be convenient!

Is that not common on other brands? On my ASUS I can right click on the battery icon in KDE, and adjust that in "Advanced Power Settings".

I'm not OP, but I had no idea KDE had that built in. I'll have to check for something analogous in my xfce config when I'm back at my laptop. Thanks!

It takes hardware support.

It used to be exclusive to thinkpads, then started showing up across more business-oriented laptops, I think some Macbooks got support, then it filtered down to various consumer models.

On the other hand, since they make replacing everything so easy, you can just ignore battery health best practices and replace the battery every 1-2 years

Does it need a battery? i know macs need a battery present to work at all, in theory because tdp is higher than the charger can provide, but is that the case with the framework as well? Could you just remove the battery when working at your desk (like i do for weeks, before having to travel)?

Just this week I went on a trip and forgot how I set the battery to not charge 100%. Now I know it was in the BIOS and that I will be able to change it without a restart soon.

Anyone know if there's any GUI or CLI tools for these parameters or should I stick to echo/cat?
