>6. Install VLC
Yawn
MX Linux is looking good for when Canonical finally double down and make every installed binary have its own mount point.
FWIW, I use WinGetUI to install from MS/Chocolatey sources rather than going off finding installers when using Win10 too. (Though it's a terrible UX compared to `aptitude`, imo.)
Do whatever you want, it just seems bizarre to me that you would go to lengths disabling snaps when you could just use a distro without them.
In some ways the distro is like a part of my identity; it's a personal decision, not a business decision as I'm a home user only now.
Insert archlinux install USB stick and reboot!
Firends don't let friends run ubuntu...
2. Nautilus expanded folder view for me sounds like a NO THANKS, for start in 2024 dealing with files and folders in manually crafted taxonomies instead of search&narrow it's a nonsense. In limited situations might be useful but definitively NOT int this way. This seems to be another RH-mania like the old Gnome Spatial View where for every folder Nautilus opened a new windows...
6. VLC have some nice features but... mpv is more gnomeish and mplayer still works pretty well... So VLC for me is definitively a nice piece of software but not that essential...
7. about this VERY BASIC damn modern GUIs IPC, that's copy/cut/paste well... Gnome is PURE DAMN CRAP. There is no damns reason not to have primary selection enabled by default, middle button emulation on by default, and no damn crappy GTk stuff that impede comfortable copy and paste for those who are not trained like the CRAPPY Windows limited and limiting default behavior, it's another very annoying nonsense like the aforementioned Nautilus UI stuff.
8. personally I use zfs/ZnapZend to manage my LAN backups, I generally advise my users against most "easy GUIs to do backups" because they tend to manage data their ways witch might be comfy if anything goes as planned but a nightmare otherwise. For those who can't use zfs, can't use Unison at least do use rsync and a filesystem who support snapshots...
10. BleachBit works well enough, some others (no experience with Ubuntu Cleaner) tend to be damn limited... Better train users to avoid delete too much with bleachbit but still being able to clean enough...
PS If I have to use Ubuntu my first thing to do is get rid of Snap.
