I've tried Windows 10/11 on a Pentium M and Core Duo and Core 2 Duo. It's abysmal performance-wise and honestly in every other way too.
Seriously, stop defendng crappy software. Windows 10 feature wise is not that different to a Windows 2000 machine with MS Office 2003. If should run screamly fast under a Core Duo, yet it throws out a perfectly fine machine to the trash.
The Dual Core machine from my SO it's far faster than my first AMD Athon with 256MB, a machine I could run Kopete and KDE3 on it doing far more than a base W10 machine minus the resolution: 1024x768 vs 1280x720. Not so different in the end.
If people want to hang onto their K6, they're free to use whatever Linux distro still bothers supporting it, because even that is becoming more difficult nowadays.
There's no reason to use this stuff. It's crap. If you're satisfied with crap, that's more your problem than Microsoft's or anybody else's. I know I'd never subject anybody I love to that kind of PC hardware.
But yeah, shoot the messenger. What a fucking waste.
It's not reality, but you, high end users, are pretty spoiled.
With UBo, your statement about requiring 1-2GB of RAM to view a web page it's pretty much bullshit unless it's something like Google Earth 3D or similar. Because even Youtube gets cuts down on CPU and RAM usage with that and the parameter array from the file at git://bitreich.org/privacy-haters copied to /etc/profiled/chromium.sh. Windows users can just paste the "--arguments --foo --bar..." list to the Chromium/Chrome desktop shortcut's EXE path settings after the EXE path.
Well that's one perspective, another might be maintaining sales of operating systems, hardware, and the economic ecosystem that it's a part of.

Are you serious? Sandy Bridge launched 2011. It's dirt cheap. It's performant. Just get one of the billions of used Thinkpads on Ebay or anywhere else. Nobody is being forced to buy the current generation. This is significantly better than the previous hardware block which was actually insane because it locked off everything older than a 7th gen Intel Core for no apparent reason. And it's actually sensible, because it's actually feature-based instead of completely arbitrary.
Windows 11 on Intel is about the worst performance/power that I've known. I use Windows 10 on a Surface Go which is usable for light work after I disable lots of extraneous Windows services. Efficiency should be a default.
I also don't run Electron 'PoS's either (except Slack on my work laptop) so don't see how that's relevant.
We can choose different OS's like macOS on Apple Silicon or Linux on AMD.
