I know this is subjective, but I dislike most of the contemporary map design. Google Map is atrocious, the recent update to the color scheme is even worse. OpenStreetMap is at least information dense, and seems to have somewhat improved, but still doesn't look good to my eyes. Fuzzy text, ugly color palette (even if better than Google Maps).
