Is it not common to request both ID and boarding ticket so they can check you are the right person?

Maybe they are more lax on local flights within the US? In Mexico it is very common to request both.

I've never had my ID checked boarding a domestic flight in the US. ID and sometimes boarding pass are checked at the TSA checkpoint before the gates.
