EU's new tech laws are working; small browsers gain market share

I live in the US, and we've been able to choose alternate default browsers for years. I understood that the recent changes had to do with allowing browsers that use different rendering engines. But I don't understand how that change would have much impact on what percent of people use different browsers. I would assume anyone who cares enough to use a non-Safari rendering engine would have already been using a different browser as default.

Until these rules came into enforcement in the EU there was no way for anyone to use a browser with a non-Apple supplied rendering engine on iOS.

They were all forced to use the same Apple supplied one.

So anyone who cared, and those that didn't, had no choice before.

Yeah, I understand it wasn't possible to use a different rendering engine. I'm just curious at who all these people are (one alternative browser claimed a 250% increase in users) who care about the rendering engine but didn't care about using a non-Safari browser previously. I would think the former would be a subset of the latter, in which case there would not be a noticeable uptick in the users who are using non-Safari browsers.

People who have no clue click whatever.
