Fully agree. This stuff doesn’t magically become interesting and relevant to HN just because some connection to a tech company exists.

One could argue that if a security engineer of Microsoft falls for Dark Web honeypots Micrsofts security may have serious problems.

Edit: Not a honeypot but a confidential source. The killer or did they intercept his browsing session?

To be clear I'm questioning the titles relevance to to story, not the act of posting on HN.

He used bitcoin purchased with his own details. Total incompetence on his part. The confidential source was probably the hitman scammer themselves.

It's pretty relavent, because the way he did the crime was incredibly brazen or incredibly stupid. Probably both.

What is the relevance?

If "engineer" was actually so high up that they were a public figure that might be something, but Christopher Pence is no such houshold name.

His former employer was utterly irrelevant.

Here are some examples of relevance:

He never wanted to leave MS and victim is who he blames for having to leave.

He hates MS now and victim is someone important in MS.

He has a fortune in MS stock and victim is about to do something that will tank that stock.

He is Steve Ballmer. Reason doesn't matter, Ballmer is notable all by himself.

And what about his current employer (or occupation whatever that may be), why a former employer?
