First, throw away any junk mail with delete, or just classify it as 'spam', though that can be a little heavy-handed if something you want gets shoved into the spam folder later on unnecessarily.
Then as you read the 'good mail', allocate it to a pre-existing folder like 'bills and receipts', 'family 2024', or whatever. Anything not considered worth keeping gets deleted.
Some emails can be kept in the inbox for consideration at a later date, like 'Amazon has dispatched your order 123456'. Once that order actually arrives, the Amazon email(s) can be deleted. In the meantime, it's a reminder that some package is due to arrive, but hasn't done so yet.
