CNN really hates Tesla. For obvious reasons. And no CNN news on Tesla should be taken seriously. In this case, it's overblowing the news.
I am a Tesla fan, but always support its criticism. But this is something much more insidious.
Everybody keeps mentioning BYD and how many cars they sell. In my corner of Europe I have not seen one BYD car. I see a ton of Teslas and more every day and people who have them tend to rave about them.
BYD is not (or barely?) in Europe, not in the US. How are they some huge factor?
BYD is indeed struggling in Europe but their low cost options sell supremely well in other markets.
CNN? Really, HN? Just announced 3 days ago: "Ford Delays Upcoming EV Three-Row SUV Until 2027, Prioritizes Hybrids". Who putting the brakes on producing BEVs? It's the OEMs. And why? Well, just throw a 7KwH battery in your gas-powered car and get the $7500 federal tax credit at point of sale... they can't make BEVs profitably at scale (outside of Tesla and BYD), so just keep pushing out the goal...
people are giving 'cancel culture' a bad name, but in our late stage capitalism, where the markets apparently must dominate both democracy and religion, my take is that voting with your wallet is both your duty and the only option you have left. I had to buy a new car recently, and elon musk's persona is the main reason I didn't pick a tesla.
Do you make all your purchasing decisions based on the company's CEO? What if you don't know his or her stance to know whether it aligns with your values... what then? Better not to know?
