I really hope you're not saying modern web-pages are enjoying to use because they look good? Because they are anything but. Instead they're often cumbersome and spend my resources on pointless cruft.

HN is one of the few web-pages that get straight to the point, and could not be any more well designed.

A web site can't have the property "enjoyable." People experience enjoyment, or not, subjectively. If you don't enjoy HN you can think about why you react to it the way you do.

I don't expect to "enjoy" HN. As a quick source of possibly interesting news I find the simple and fast UI effective. Perhaps I have low expectations, but he who has no expectations can never feel disappointed.

Unfortunately, the principle of 'form follows function' has been largely deprecated on the rather enshittified web. HN is an exception from this disturbing trend and thus a joy to use. Can't imagine any UI more straighfroward than the current default one. Thanks for that!

What is bad about it?

There are various apps, browser plugins and websites that offer different reader experiences. My own app (iOS and web) was built for reading https://www.hazumi.news

The simplicity and general ugliness might be an intentional choice.

I use the chrome plugin `modern-for-hacker-news` to beautify its style, maybe you can try it
