Amazon Kindle Lock Screens Are Showing Ads for AI-Generated Books

The cons it had, and the reason I sought to replace it where the lack of water proofing and the micro USB port.
The software was a bit of an issue as well, but with calibre you could reasonably transfer books that weren't from Amazon. Once I hacked the voyage and installed Koreader in it, damn, it completely gave new life to the device. But ultimately the hardware had become lacking, particularly the charging port.
In my search for a new reader I bought a Chinese reader (onyx poke 3). Android based, quickly I realized android was not the right operating system for my use-case and the battery sacrifice of the OS was not worth it. Also, the screen just wasn't as good. I read online it's because of some extra layers that are put on modern eReaders to make them more accurate to the touch or something. I think you would never notice unless you had precisely a Kindle Voyage (which had and probably still has the best looking E reader screen).
In any case, I ended up buying a Kobo Clara 2E. Waterproof, USB C and (a new requirement for me) compatible with Koreader. Seemed to fit the bill, and it did. The screen is not flushed and there's no buttons which means reading in the bathtub is not the most ideal but still, it's serviceable in this regard. And the screen looks just as good as my Kindle Voyage. So it's pretty close to perfect. Also the screen is not super big which is something else I look for in an e-reader.
I'm waiting for Kobo to release, hopefully, another similar device but with buttons and a flushed screen. If that ever happens!
All this to say, kindle is not really the best device you can get for reading right now. If you know your way around software I'd recommend the Kobo Clara 2e. Cheap and koreader compatible. No ads. No clunky interface and an amazing reading experience. The only way kindle is better is that there's no equivalent to x-ray in open source/crowd source software.
At this point, it's on an outdated version of the OS but since I don't need to connect it, I don't bother. It reads books just fine. One day the battery will give up, and I'll look to upgrade. The kobos are on my list to look into.
If you purchase the discounted ad version. Pay the full price or the $20 difference whenever you feel like and you don't get any ads. You can even send them a message saying "hey, I didn't know there would be ads" and the support will remove them for you.
