Step 1: stop using 14 year old devices

Like dude, a 14 year old pc would suck today. A 14 year old laptop would suck today. A 14 year old phone would suck today.

While an entry level 14y old pc is probably a turd today, one that had mid-high specs at the time still works totally fine to this day.

Suck for what? There’s plenty of use cases for old devices. It’s not for you (or a corporation) to decide what’s good for me.

True, but neither is it up to him (or a corporation) to continue issuing free software updates from now until the heat death of the Universe.

Jailbreak it and use it as you will.

Yes, and this is exactly the reason why root access should be possible for every device, without jailbreak.
