It is also surprising ( or not ) that Qualcomm is releasing this mostly due to pressure from Mediatek. It you had believe 99% of what the internet [1], HN, Reddit wrote over the years you would have thought Qualcomm has a monopoly in the market.
[1] So much hate towards Qualcomm now and over the years, from many influencers ( VCs, Founders, PL's BDFL, Full Stack Framework's Creator, Front End JS's creator ) on Social Media bashing them for unwilling to compete with Apple, no need to compete inside the Android ecosystem because they have a monopoly. Or simply in capable of ever competing because they are 5 years behind Apple and by the time they catch up Apple will be 5 years ahead.
Similar but different, servethehome talking about the AMD EPYC 7C13 which seems to be a last gen 64c Epyc at a much much much more down-to-earth price. https://www.servethehome.com/amd-epyc-7c13-is-a-surprisingly...
Interesting tactic, of not re-pricing your old stuff, just releasing new models that do the old thing. In the 8s's case the story is much more complex, clearly there's an actual new chip, but I still see a lot of similarity.
