There have been several really good episodes of Oxide and Friends discussing the danger to open source posed by license proliferation, the danger of copyright assignment, the danger of conflating downloads or FOSS project popularity with income and a viable business model, and appropriate stewardship of a shared project. This is an area that sort of bleeds over between engineering and politics, and as politics go I think this is an a very important topic for developers to understand well and engage with.
