Ultimately that last point was a big deal. My wife doesn't believe a word out of that dudes mouth, and neither do I anymore I guess compared to how I used to be. So, seemed crazy to buy a car from him.
I like my Subaru, would buy again. Guess I'm an ad now.
I'm just some dumbass who was buying a car, and that's largely what I went off of.
Take politics, for example: I dislike the idea that politicians must be impressive and charismatic. What I really want a politician to be is a dull, smart, earnest, grey person who does an exceptionally good job of making decisions on running my country. I don’t want to raving egoist in the slightest, and it shouldn’t matter what I think of that individual personally if their output is excellent.
Similarly, while I agree that Musk is becoming more and more objectionable with time, I don’t understand why that is a factor in the objective decision of buying a car. Don’t like autopilot? Fine, buy another brand. Need 4x4 capability? Fine, buy an another brand. But if Tesla was the best choice for your needs (and I believe in many cases, it may be) then not buying it simply because of the odd behaviour of one individual seems incomprehensible. It’s a car. A lump of metal engineered to move you around. It’s not a manifestation of anyone’s emotions or worldview.
Further, I suspect there are many many objectionable individuals in significant positions in many of the companies we purchase from; perhaps the only major difference is that they are simply not as high-profile as Musk.
the rockets can be pretty neat.
Hopefully his meddling is contained there, would hate to see them become as tainted as Tesla has...
Very much not aligned with the far left, but they'll take their money.
Also, their EV-only strategy makes them vulnerable to the slower than expected uptake of electric vehicles in many markets. Lastly, it is difficult to see Tesla maintaining a technical edge. Other manufacturers have shown to be able to produce electric drivetrains. And Tesla’s full self driving technology is difficult to assess. They sure did make a lot of noise, making it look like they are ahead of everyone else. Whether that’s the case is anyone’s guess - most likely it is not.
Careful of the headlines here. I know you said “in many markets” but sales are continuing to increase year-on-year, despite headlines claiming a “slowing”. You’re not claiming the opposite but I’ve seen people get confused about the news coverage of this.
Slowing is such a bad term to use since people don’t realise they are talking about the second derivative. If you are driving and your acceleration drops but is still positive, are you slowing or speeding up? Most people have equated it to sales going down because of misleading headlines.
