The Unreasonable Effectiveness of VLC

The UI needs work in both the PC and mobile versions. Both versions need a better, finer granular way of selecting a point in a video then stop-framing it and or replaying short sections such as the replay of a ballgame catch.
The PC version's options settings is indescribably obscure and complicated and needs to be rewritten/redesigned, also a help/explanation section should be included.
The PC version's video adjustments (brightness, gamma, contrast, sharpness) are notoriously course and there is no reset-to-default setting. In fact, each adjustment should be able to be reset individually. This section of the code needs a rewrite. The problem with this adjustment section has been there for years. Moreover, the mobile version doesn't even have this adjustment feature, in fact it has very few adjustments and there is no way of forcing the time/duration bar indicator to stay on which is a real pain (in fact the ergonomics of the mobile version are quite horrible).
VLC doesn't play midi files and some video codecs are jerky and the interlace adjustments, both manual and automatic, are suboptimal. There are many other issues but it would take a detailed essay to list them all.
On evidence, Kyle's Blog paints an overly rosy picture of VLC which doesn't exist in practice. It's probably the best independent media player around but both versions need a lot of fine tuning work.
I'd like to know why the development on VLC has essentially crawled to a stop.
