That is just crass. Why ruin an interesting topic that way?

Perhaps because it is interesting that a region known for recent colonialism was once, itself, colonized?

Just like this statement might provoke thought: long before the US railed against China for "stealing" technology, the US had to "borrow" British technology.

Except that has nothing to do with the story or even what is going in Ukraine at the moment (which isn't what is referred to as "European colonialism"). It is, indeed, just crass.

I didn't find it to be ruined at all. It might be worth asking yourself why it bothers you so much.
