I wrote programming language BLC for compressing files down to the smallest possible description (ie. their Kolmogorov complexity). So the smallest description is a program in this language and decompression is running it. Unfortunately, the ultimate compression is uncomputable:-(

Is anyone seriously paying money to get to use the badge and put up a blog post on this site? Weird monetization strategy for something that's essentially no work in my opinion.

out of curiosity, why don't modern software engineering courses structure curriculum in such a way that students actually do learn about and then fully program entry-level versions of each of these? It would get them exposed not only to tentpole software used cases, but each of them entail a wide array of foundationally diverse programming and algorithmic topics.

My memory might be foggy or even scrambled a bit now, but I think I had most of these at my uni's lab at some point or another.
