I was afraid that given this spec was from 2018 it'd be some monstrosity of old specs cobbled together, some sdio over PCIe or some junk, but I'm very excited that it is in fact the obvious clear modern solution, NVMe. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16938/silicon-motion-sm2708-s...
It will of course take forever and a half for songle-board-computers (SBC) to catch up. Alas. They seem to barely have any PCIe if they have any at all, but hopefully there starts to be some real competition & change here some day, hopefully some expandability becomes of interest. One can dream, right? Sometimes it feels like PCIe throughout is the new anti-multicore war, that throughput is the thing everyone is working hard to never deliver for fear of creating a competitive market that has competition; everyone delivering old 6+ year old cores with poor uncore/io keeps everyone from having to compete or try; that feels like the ARM Hallmark.
