This method never worked for me. I've stopped drinking coffee a few times in my life for a various reasons and cold turkey was the most effective method. Yes, there were headaches for a couple of days, but after that I felt great. I suppose it could've also just been that my attempt at gradual reduction wasn't steep enough.
On my reason for quitting coffee, t's exactly as the article states, we shouldn't become reliant on something, and for me, I could tell I was getting reliant on coffee due to the fact that if I ever missed my routine cup I would crash pretty badly.
I had a massive health scare before Christmas (the C word was a strong possibility, luckily turned out being nothing) and after that decided to change a lot of things for my health including dropping coffee. I just did it overnight and went from 8 cups a day to nothing.
For me it was just important to find a healthy substitute ie a warm drink I could have in the morning and after lunch. I think the mechanic act of drinking something at these 2 moments of the day was more meaningful to me than the actual caffeine.
I was just fine with the exhausted feeling, it only lased a few weeks and then I had more energy than I ever would have realized.
After detoxification had run its course, it felt relly good and it was amazing to realize what I has been missing.
Certainly could get more things accomplished without crashing, not less.
