OpenBSD Is Slow

My main gripe with OpenBSD is battery life, but it is slightly less performant than other systems. Some of the information in the post is out-of-date though.
softdep is no longer a thing (and was a no-op for quite a while IIUC): https://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article;sid=20240204112905
802.11ac/ax are supported for some (mostly intel) wireless NICs, and is no slower than any other system. From what I've read, this is due to chip vendors putting functionality into the chip firmware that would be previously be handled by drivers, making support much easier (at the cost of more inscrutable black-box firmware handling possibly sensitive comms). In my experience, modern APs make a bigger difference than client-side hardware though - even single-antenna b/g/n USB adapters are usable when the AP has tons of antennas and nice features.
