Ask HN: Best way to make side money 500 euros per month

How can a generalist make side money no less than 500 euros per month?

Can anyone recommend anything? I would like to test this as a PoC, if plausible.

- Investing $137k into bonds would generate about $500 per month - Selling your time is the most straight forward way

Consider cutting expenses, you can save 500 euros per month without any side activity.

You can also sell your time and buy bonds until the desired amount is reached.

Will that work?

If I had $137K I would not asked for at least 500 euros per month LOL!

You can trivially make €500/mo as a beggar, but it's extremely time inefficient.

In other words, how much time you have per week?

I have around 10 hours per week, if that helps.

That's about 40 hours a month so waiting tables would probably work.

Or Barrista.

Or mall security guard.

Or basically, an ordinary low wage job is the simplest thing that might work.

Any job paying 12.50/hour with an amenable schedule meets the requirements.

A friend used to work part-time at KFC, roughly within your parameters.

Is this based on your own experience? If so, what did you find most effective?

No, it's based on rumours about some local old ladies' begging syndicate.

My point was about efficiency though.

I guess I should have added `technologist` along with generalist; my bad, it was not clear at all.

My problem is the lack of specialization in one stack of technology.

Others deal with web development exclusively, others with AI and its sub-categories, others deal with gaming development, and so forth.

I'm just trying to find a way to make 500 euros per month, no less than that so I can stand on my feet again...I won't go in details about my personal life here, I hope you understand why I'm going after the minimum amount of income.

I used to teach ms office and stupid stuff like that for about $20 an hour at night classes. That was maybe 15 years ago. You have 10 hours a week, so if your schedule allows, maybe do some teaching?

I have tried it for 7 years as teaching assistance.

For some reason, it saddens me teaching others, because I don't have it as a teacher; I cannot convey the right message.

That’s fairly common. I had a lot of bad TAs in college. Maybe private tutoring?

I have tried that and lost to chatGPT! :D Seems like they prefer it, especially university students that need to deliver project as soon as possible!

I teach as an adjunct at a local community college online. It pays about $1k a month. Just basic HTML, CSS and Python. It is about 2 hrs of work per week.

If ethical issue is not your main concern, you can always do other people’s programming homework. Charge whatever you think it’s appropriate.

Another possibility is data entry. Here in the US is between $20-$25 an hour.

Drive Uber?

My country does not offer Uber services; taxis dominate here.

Worth qualifying "generalist", then.

Delivery service such as DoorDash or your country’s equivalent?

Turkey?

Drive a taxi?

Make your own uber?
