Would I get promoted faster if I were closer to leadership? yes.

If a colleague works in a satellite office and I work at headquarters would I get promoted faster? Yes.

The root of it is, and I think the article points this out, is that it comes down to visibility. Remote workers need to remember that they need to find a way to stay in touch, communicate openly and effectively, not only with their supervisors but also the leaders above and around them. It can be pretty challenging to do this for a lot of people.

On the flip side, I can’t say proximity plays out this way when layoffs come but that’s quite rare in my field.
