How could someone write this and not discuss what is being done to get cough People to stop buying it? Does the Chinese government really not have anything to say about it?
I thought that the BBC was better than this.
Seems cheaper to engineer than this....and more ethical
The short version: It's a concern, but a distant secondary concern. The issue is the current practice of killing donkeys would be "wrong" even if it had a lot of legitimate medicinal value.
The BBC failed to inform because I'm still confused if collagen extraction relies on recycling dead animal carcasses rather than actively raising and killing animals for slaughter.
- Pandemics including the 1918 "Spanish" flu and COVID
- Antibiotic resistance
- Air, soil, and water pollution
- Deforestation for feed farms and CAFOs
- A major component of climate change
Most people are inhumane and completely reject animal cruelty reflexively, so it's a weak, unpersuasive argument. Meat agriculture and fossil fuels need to be banned but won't because of stupidity, profits, and a lack of willpower.
