Cisco to lay off more than 4k employees to focus on artificial intelligence

This is a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: a shiny has obsessed all of these big companies such that they can’t think straight. Their obsession with profits at any cost has made them chase a (mostly) mirage, long before it has become stable or useful enough to actually justify eliminating so much of their workforce.
For those laid-off people with deep industry experience, it would not take much to put together a worker’s collective that could pick up the advantages that these established players drop on the floor thanks to their obsession with AI. And more importantly: as a worker’s collective, they wouldn’t be beholden to parasite-class “investors” that could force them down that same AI path in a vampire-squid obsession for profit at any cost.
Not that such a new entrant couldn’t make use of AI, but they could certainly use it from a more pragmatic standpoint, utilizing only known, well-proven attributes. As in, let these established companies stumble into the AI wilderness and carefully observe their progress. Let them waste billions figuring out what works and what doesn’t, and carefully follow in their shadow until they have done most to all of the heavy lifting.
Sure, the early bird gets the worm, but it is the second mouse that gets the cheese. Being a “first mover” is not always a winning strategy.

This sudden wholesale replacement of employees that many companies are doing in favour of some unproven AI initiative is nothing more than the C-Suite suits and their parasite-class “investor” masters being dumb AF and chasing profit regardless of the risk.
