What Is Economic "Growth"?

Part of it (specifically the part where laymen have pessimistic views) is just Info overload.

In the past there was just much less data, lot of theories, and few people had the time to wrap their heads around any of it.

Today there is a tsunami of data. Much better understanding of how complex dynamic systems work. And its all getting shoved down peoples throughts thanks to the Attention Economies mindless goal of Engagement.

But all this has jack to do with control of said complex dynamic systems. Just like we cant control the path of hurricanes inspite all the data and theories about them. So people are getting told to pay attention to x y z but it doesnt really matter. Second graders dont need to have an opinion on tenth grade problems. Unless the goal is to screw with them or inflict brain damage.

And hurricanes are much much smaller systems than the global economy. Bad out of control things will happen on much larger scales. Beyond a point there is no use of gettting everyone over excited about it.

Info overload has to be actively reduced. Info flow architectures have to change.
