I once mentioned to a friend, the dean of an academic department, that I kept my email outbox on a 1 day delay, finding that often my drafts improved drastically after a little reflection.

He replied, "that's funny, I keep my inbox on a 3 day delay"; that was his empirically determined cutoff for when a problem appeared insoluble enough by ordinary means by people within his department to be worth his intervention.
