Are there any certifications or list of certifications that you can recommend for development or security that are easy and cheap?

lots of discussion about this

If I can make a suggestion, find the topics you like and get stuck in on your own. set your own labs up (if possible) play and get hands on with the stuff you have a deep interest in. Certs are a good way to get an interview, but they are not really a true signal of knowledge.

CISSP (not cheap / some would say not easy), used to be highly valued, however, that's not really the case anymore. (picking just one example)

Some would say, that these certs are a bit of a scam these days, as you have to renew them every year (additional cost) earn credits (additional work), have someone vouch for you (basically have a colleague who has the cert and will sign for you).

This is just an opinion and not as detailed as it could be.

I guess I should add that I don't care how useful it is. I basically just need to check a box that says I did a cert this year to help with my performance review.

CEH then - certified ethical hacker

I'll check that out. Thanks!

Wow, I looked into it, but the online course with test is about $2000. That's pretty pricey.

oh, it wasn't that pricey when i did it (plus my company at the time payed it)

how about this (its free)? - https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2024/

Thanks! Looks like a lot of cool stuff on the edx site. I'll have to check it out.

I cannot comment on price, but labor market wise, you'd probably start from CISSP or something like that.

Thanks, that's definitely a but expensive. I was hoping for something super easy like Splunk User or Super User.
