List of Botched Executions

The update to Kenneth Eugene Smith's entry should be standalone as a separate botched operation:

> Alabama Death Row inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith on Thursday night became the first prisoner to die using a new untested method of execution in the United States—suffocation by nitrogen gas.

> The gas appeared to start flowing at approximately 7:58 p.m. Smith visibly shook and writhed against the gurney for around two minutes. His arms thrashed against the restraints.

> He breathed heavily, slightly gasping, for approximately seven more minutes. At one point, his wife cried out.
