Nitpick: stellar fusion is fundamentally different from thermonuclear fusion.

Proton-proton fusion is mediated by the weak force [1][2]. A lump of the Sun radiates less power than your body. It works because there is a lot of Sun. Thermonuclear fusion is far more energetic because it's mediated by the strong force.

Yes, and there's also a stealth way to capture it if your planet has any type of gaseous atmosphere: take advantage of air currents that arise from the repeated heating and cooling of your atmosphere using a wind turbine.

Isn't storage still a problem? I suppose there's batteries and pumped-storage hydro.
