YouTube prime is $7 cheaper if you subscribe on the website

I just fell for it. If you subscribe through the iOS app it’s $7 more expensive. Presumably this is because of the Apple cut. This is crazy!

Yeah a lot of apps charge about 30% extra if you subscribe through the app due to the Apple tax. It's best to go to the site directly and see what the actual price is.

Pro tip: don't use a phone for anything you could possibly use a desktop computer for and you can undo maybe 5 years of enshittification.

I subscribe via apple if at all possible because it sticks all my subs together on one screen. The dates for each are clearly listed. I can unsubscribe from any with a click. The markup is worth all hassle being removed.

It’s even cheaper if you use a vpn to connect to say, India when you sign up.

Whats the payment method? Can you just use a visa/mastercard for payment?

but it will only work with Indian issued cards.

Noticed some content stuff is cheaper if you buy directly, not just on apple. Audio books, authors, music, etc.

I do this with my books - everything from my direct store is a little cheaper. This is because I get a much bigger cut of the royalties selling direct (90-100% minus transaction fees depending on direct sales platform, compared to other storefronts' 30-70%). I also value direct sales a lot because these readers let me bypass a dependency on another middle-man and give me better reach to the customer.

Wow can't believe I didn't know this... I've been subbed for a while now

youtube can have price even 0.001$ still won't pay to them anything.

"no, we will not put any ads on youtube now that we (google) purchased it"
