There's an audiobook series I listened to during the pandemic by Scott Meyer, Off to Be the Wizard is the first, and all the main characters know that they are simulations.

As I listened to them before ChatGPT came out I wasn't thinking of LLMs, but I was nevertheless thinking of what it would be like to do to the characters from that series what has been done by this… anonymous paster?; turning them into fully fleshed out people with a wavefunction collapse algorithm to procedurally create the missing gaps of personality and backstory that necessarily don't fit into a novel.

Not that interesting. And yet there's so much garbage chat gpt out there for shitty business use cases that's becoming the stereotypical face of what ai sounds like. It is honestly interesting to remind oneself every now and then at its ability to do flavorful text.

Low effort aside, it's actually quite good.
