Chinese chess champion stripped of title after defecating in hotel bathtub

Like a number of sporting associations about the globe in many countries it has things to say about association members that "bring the sport into disrepute" through questionable behaviour.
The association is stripping the title it awarded from him, just as a racing association can scratch a winning because of suspicions about drugs, organised betting rings, etc.
For whatever reason the Xiangqi Association doesn't want its titles to be linked to players that are publicly known for taking dumps in hotel bath tubs and|or accusations of cheating.
So this title seems more of a cultural trophy than a sporting trophy. In that setting, winners of prizes (Bafta winner Noel Clarke, for example), can be stripped of a prize a posteriori.
No part of my comment asserts that all clubs and associations are in lockstep with each other, just that all clubs and associations can and do set their own rules.
FWiW here is a short list of some sporting winners that have had their titles removed, medals revoked, wins deleted from official records for bad | unsporting behaviour (as determined by various associations):

I think the distinction between cultural and sport trophy makes sense: A cultural trophy is something someone gave to you for their own reasons, so of course they can take it away as well. A sport trophy is something you earned. Unless somebody can prove you didn't actually earn it (doping / cheating), it is very uncommon to be taken away after the fact.
Joe Paterno: Penn State removed the legendary coach's statue outside the stadium, and 111 of his career wins were erased because of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.
Are you saying that the child molestation took place on field?Furthermore, and I think this is important, he was a coach, not an athlete.
Finally, child molestation is in a different category than shitting in a bath tub, but I admit that is besides the point.
