Please be aware that Microsoft bundles news from MSN with Windows, and will show trash articles like the one submitted here to a very large part of the population. Including students of all ages who must use a managed laptop from their school, and cannot disable this because Microsoft has for a long time made it impossible for them to do so [1].

It's completely distracting and frankly dystopian.

My partner works for the federal government and her Edge browser has the MSN bullshit too. I tried to explain my frustration with it. I don’t think she knew what I was talking about. This is one of my MS pet peeves that really gets me rambling angrily lol

We should get some space marine with a green armor suit and anger issues to investigate those demonic forces. Hand him a double barrelled shotgun and a chainsaw and watch him rip and tear right through it.

I tried to use the opening sentence as my submission title but it was "106 [characters] too long."

Then I spent 15 minutes trying to compress that sentence down from 186 to HN's 80-character limit, without success.

What would YOU have titled this submission?

I feel like your title is fine, though if "fear of" would fit it might be relevant, such as:

Fear of 'Demonic forces' stopped official investigations into UFOs in the UK

Since that recasts it a little bit as "officials didn't want to investigate as they thought the UFOs were demonic" rather than "officials didn't investigate because demonic forces prevented them from doing so".

I know HN's policy on submissions is to match the link's headline - so I would have titled it the same here ... it's MSN that had the broken headline :)

A fairly significant % of Christians, at least in the USA but I would imagine the UK too, believe in alien visitation and alien abduction -- and that they're actually demons. One realization I've had recently, is that the simultaneous rise of the alien abduction/visitation phenomenon, and the Satanic panic, both peaking in the late 1980s and early 1990s, is likely related in some way; both involve repressed memories of fantastic sexual violation in physically impossible circumstances by supernatural beings.

This is basically the plot line of Childhood's End on Sci-fi channel.

I think religion drives superstitious thinking and possibly the belief in conspiracy theories as well. It might be the origin of such distorted patterns of thinking.

They keep rehashing stuff. I've heard Mr. Pope say this many times over many years, but it's never been the subject of an ENTIRE news article. It seems to suggest that if we could just get our leaders to stop believing in this silly "God" thing and start believing they are little green men from Mars instead, we could finally make real progress!

Purely for curiosity's sake: If you assume this is true what would it mean for the laws of physics? Are demons outside of physics or still constrained by it?

As far as common folkore is concerned, demons are metaphysical in that they originate from a higher plane of existence which itself defines physical reality, and thus are not constrained by physics, only by God's will and the metaphysical limits of their own nature, whatever that might be.

Sounds like investigating officials lost faith in the god emperors blessings. Did the imperial commissar forget his morale revolver?

A cult of UFO true believers within the Pentagon connected with Skinwalker Ranch have been blowing smoke up the asses of credulous people like Harry Reid and David Grusch in order to divert resources and money to their spook-hunting grift.

Meanwhile the media pushes the surface-level narrative that "the US government admits extraterrestrial craft are real" (which they never actually ever did) rather than bothering to actually do investigative journalism, because that's what gets clicks.

And as far as UAPs go, they are certain to be cutting edge, classified but purely terrestrial craft, probably drones, which don't actually violate the laws of physics.
