Electrified cloth extracts uranium from seawater

Why is this specific to uranium? I would think that any molecule with similar electronics would also get attracted to the mesh.

As best I can tell, the authors don't write that it is specific to uranium; rather, that is the element they chose to study.

I now assume they’re “mining” gold.

That makes sense. They have a method that is going to get them doctorates and good jobs, so they want to publish on it.

But, publishing prevents them from having a monopoly on gold mining.

So they publish using uranium, hoping it will be classified, or that at least some of the details will be classified.

I'm not sure if this good for cheap nuclear energy, or TEOTWAWKI.
