Ask HN: Why doesn't GitHub display the number of lines in files?

This feature seems so obvious to me that I can't believe I am the only one wanting it. I'm too lazy to write a browser extension for this though. Is any other VC website doing it?

GitHub does display them at the top of the file and along the side of each file.

It does, but not in the main view, which shows only the comment and date of the latest commit.

Main view? Like the repository overview with the readme, files, etc. or where do you mean?
