Daniel Langlois, founder of Softimage, found dead in Dominica

This is very sad. The impact Daniel Langlois had in Montreal is essentially unbelievable, and most of those of us working in the tech/media intersection here could thank him for creating the whole ecosystem that contains our jobs.

One thing he did with the Softimage money was found Excentris which was a beautifully barmy indie cinema with features like ticket booths where for no reason you had to communicate with the attendant via video.

As a transplant into Montreal I had known of Softimage since the 90s, as their international reputation was very strong, so seeing their sign that used to be on St Laurent did make you aware of a justified sense of local pride in that achievement. Sadly that sign has gone.
