This particular project sees some small gains from optional/opt-in same-race (Black) classes, from a district open to trying anything to improve abysmal Black student performance. Good for them, but it isn't like this kind of approach is a viable strategy to rectify the multi-generation order of magnitude disparities in resources and pathways most Black students are facing when it comes to education.
Of course when it comes economic disparities the WSJ is quite deliberately and systemically blind, and obviously in this piece poverty and resources etc get zero quantitative mention.
But again the WSJ isn't news, it's politics. As a political hit piece, I thought it was quite clever. Highlighting an AEI quote that such projects undermine the goal of the CRA- which the AEI and the now political WSJ fight at every turn- is really chef's kiss. Well done!
We want some kind of equality, but not all human are born equal in ability. I don't think we know how to balance this
