> Default behavior can be changed by changing file name of the Sound Keeper executable
That's the first time I am seeing a way of configuring an app or passing parameters.
Is this unique or common?
This is very common in unix tools where the name of the executable changes the behavior of the tool (e.g. bash/sh, vim/vi). Exiftool is more like this, where you can pass in command line options inside () within the executable file name.
Yeah, I believe the trick is to have a bunch of links for different utilities all pointing to the same executable, which then varies it's behaviour based on how it was called.
The way the author decided to configure its program is pretty interesting.
What is the problem this is solving?
Prevents your digitally connected output devices from sleeping. They may not wake up until you manually tickle them, or they wake so slowly that your short notification sounds get lost or delayed, causing problems for you.
When I first encountered this phenomenon, it really annoyed me. Now that practically all of my audio connections are digital, it's so common that I don't really notice it.
Nice when something that's bothered me bothered someone else enough to fix it for me. :)
