Ask HN: Black Friday Deals for Software?

11 pointsrixrax20 comments

Over the years I've purchased variety of software from software VPNs to text editors from BlackFriday deals. This years I don't have anything specific on my mind, so I thought I might as well ask the hive mind to send pointers to BlackFriday deals for (great!) software. Thanks!

Affinity makes some great alternatives to Photoshop and Illustrator (and you only pay for it once rather than monthly). They have a 40% off deal for Black Friday. See https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/

Plus an additional 25% off if you're upgrading from v1, which I did today.

Thanks for the tip! Already an Affinity user, but had missed the whole version 2.

Any experience running it on Linux?

The WineHQ AppDB [1] table doesn't look great, but [2] offers some hope.

No, I haven't tried to run Affinity apps on Linux.

I do use Linux (desktop) quite a lot, but I haven't found anything quite like Affinity Designer for Linux, i.e. GPU-accelerated vector graphics rendering. For simple projects, I often use BoxySVG (which is free on Linux).

For photo / raster graphics editing, I find that Krita meets all my needs on Linux.

Both a PWA and desktop app. Cool!

This GitHub repo has a bunch of software deals from indie makers: https://github.com/trungdq88/Awesome-Black-Friday-Cyber-Mond...

I would also recommend you check out https://www.heuristi.ca/. I am a bit biased here since I am the founder but it is a great tool for learning, exploration, and divergent thinking. It is 40% off for Black Friday.

Heuristica is quite helpful! Thanks for building it.

How to select multiple nodes for a comparison?

I worked on https://saas.blackfriday featuring 40+ deals of marketing, SEO, sales, CRM, dev, product, and business software.

Deals vary from extended trials, extra credits, discounts to lifetime plans. Ending soon.

If you're using macOS, here you can find my 2 apps: SideNotes and Workspaces. Both discounted 40% and both are one-time-purchase. https://www.apptorium.com/black-friday-2023

Not software, but pragprog has 40% of all ebooks/audio books with code: https://media.pragprog.com/newsletters/2023-11-17.html

I put together a list of 100 blackfriday deals from indie makers that include developer tools,SaaS & mac apps : https://www.indiedeals.co/

Ok, not really software, but I'm hoping phind does a last minute BF deal (doubt they'll bother/need to) on their annual $300 offering. I'd swap it for my current $20/mnth openAI subscription.

PaprikaApp - recipe app I love

iOS and Android apps are currently 40% off macOS and Windows apps are currently 50% off

50% off https://netwrck.com which is an AI Art Generator/Chatbot platform

Keep an eye on https://blackfridaydeals.dev

I think there will be Cybermonday deals? I am waiting for Monday :)

i'm not a fan of adobe but they are an industry standard and have a deal for 50% off the full suite 1 year plan which strikes me as a decent deal

Bvckup 2.
